Lanterns, Legends, and Lunar Love: AU’s Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration Shines Bright

On September 17, 2024, Assumption University of Thailand (AU)’ s Suvarnabhumi Campus came alive with vibrant colors, music, and cultural displays as students, faculty, and staff gathered at AU Plaza, The Cathedral of Learning Building to celebrate the much-anticipated Mid-Autumn Festival. Organized by the, Business Chinese Department, Theodore Maria School of Arts, Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU) and the Assumption University Student Organization (AUSO) , the event was a joyful tribute to one of the most beloved festivals in Chinese culture.

From the moment the festival began at noon, attendees were treated to an immersive cultural experience, starting with a dazzling Fashion Show featuring traditional Chinese attire. The models gracefully showcased the intricate designs and historical significance of each outfit, setting the tone for the afternoon.

Following the fashion show, the audience was captivated by a Traditional Dance Performance, blending elegance and energy with every step. The rhythmic beauty of the dancers was matched by the soothing strings of the Guzheng Performance, which transported everyone to ancient China with its timeless melodies.

One of the highlights of the event was the Chinese Tea Ceremony, where participants learned about the deep-rooted traditions and spiritual significance behind Chinese tea culture. Attendees marveled at the skill and grace of the tea masters, who showcased the artistry of tea preparation and service.

Afterward, students, faculty, and staff came together for a heartwarming Group Photo Session, capturing the joy and unity of the moment. Laughter, smiles, and friendships filled the atmosphere as the AU community came together to mark this special occasion.

The festival concluded with a hands-on Mooncake-Making Workshop, where participants got a taste of the culinary traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival. With guidance from skilled instructors, everyone had the chance to create their own mooncakes, adding a delicious and creative end to the day’s festivities.

The event not only celebrated the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival but also promoted cross-cultural understanding and community spirit. As one student remarked, “It’s amazing how a festival can bring people from different cultures together. We’re learning so much, but we’re also having a great time!”

The CIAU, along with its organizing partners, hopes that this celebration will continue to inspire an appreciation for cultural diversity at AU. Events like these remind us that no matter where we’re from, we all share the common joy of community and tradition.

Until next year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, the AU community will cherish the memories of this bright, beautiful day filled with Lanterns, Legends, and Lunar Love.
